OUR YOUTH ARE THE FUTURE!
APPROVED BY THE CALGARY BOARD OF EDUCATION
INTERACTIVE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS USING HORSES TO PREPARE YOUR CHILDREN FOR LIFE'S CHALLENGES
Our programs for youth that we have available, are specialized to ensure the learning and retention of necessary life skills to aid in each youths personal growth. Our furry coaches, the horses, provide a unique approach to allow for teachable moments, providing an interactive experience that is guaranteed to be remembered. When our youth are faced with challenges and obstacles in everyday life, these programs allow the opportunity to draw from strong and critical life skills developed through working with the horses, to help overcome life’s hurdles. Our youth curriculum programs are between 8-12 sessions allowing our facilitators to ensure personal growth within each youth.
UNIQUE LEARNING APPROACH DELIVERS FAST, EFFECTIVE RESULTS!
Horses are an optimal academic tool for use with children. Once a child has acquired the basics of horse safety, he or she can become the leader the horse seeks. Once the horse creates a bond with the individual, personal development is inevitable and the child can competently get the horse to do what is asked of it.
LIFE SKILLS & LEADERSHIP CURRICULUM
We are not born with life skills. Character is a learned behaviour. If we are not taught how are we to learn? The BuildingBlock™ Curriculum provides skill development that helps prepare you for the challenges life brings. Once participants have learned some basics of horse safety, they can become the leader the horse needs.
The Life Skills Curriculum focusses on objectives such as:
- building relationships
- team work
- problem solving
- trust and respect
Horses can assist in introducing young people to values and behaviours that are expected of them in society. The horses are assertive at encouraging communication and leadership skills. They help instil empathy and kindness. They are also very forgiving and non-judgemental.
The Anti-Bullying Curriculum covers critical objectives such as:
- body language
WHY DOES EAL WORK?
Cats, dogs, horses... what's the difference?
There is no comparison to having a 1200 pound teacher...
Because horses are prey animals, they are very aware of their surroundings. Their instincts are astute. They hear and see far more acutely than we do and are very sensitive to touch. They are always present in the moment, never lie, and give instant and honest feedback to our interactions with them. They have a lot to each us.
What can a horse teach you that humans can’t?
Horses continually illustrate assertiveness and teach us how to acquire it.
Horses are unable to lie or misperceive a participants motive.
Horses feedback is honest and immediate.
Nature provides them with enhanced instincts and senses that are highly astute.
Help to instill empathy and kindness into the participants.
Their natural “herd behaviours” require, trust, respect and teamwork from all members of the team.
They lead through assertiveness - not forcefulness.
Horse personalities are very distinct, and by this they have different methods of teaching.
What stops us from forgetting?
Learning with horses vs in a classroom is the fundamental component of interactivity because we all have different learning styles. Working with horses allows us to walk away with lessons that we learn through our experiences.
